Christmas Gift 2010 December 29, 2010

Christmas has come and gone.  What is your reflection of this year?  Mine was very different from the past years.  The husband and I agreed to no gifts especially since we just did the cruise.  Our friends adopted a family from the United Christmas Service here in Indianapolis.  We offered to help them adopt this family and were assigned to the 4 year old boy.  Toys, clothes, and shoes were on his wish list.  I had to keep the hubby out of the toy section.  Feedback from our friend says they were very grateful for the gifts.   Looking forward to doing this again.

My mother-in-law is the best.  She reads my blog regularly and fully supports my creative side.  She even went to a couple of quilt shops with me in October.  The gift is very simple but exactly what I need.

After reading about my 2011 Project she had an idea for a gift.  I absolutely loved it.  I am in trouble that I opened the box early, but this was worth it.  Good thing, I ran out of black thread last night.

Thread to match the colors of the 2011 Project.

So I asked my Facebook friends what their gift of the season was.  Here are some of their responses:

Terrie – “A healthy husband!”

Chris – “A shake weight”  Fun considering what his profession is.

Joan – “Kool-Aid dyed yarn from my grandson”

Kim – “DisneyPrincess dress up kit for my daughter.  She has changed costumes at least 50 times and won’t stop.”  She enjoys giving gifts and the joy it brings others.  Her work has an Angel Tree and her department adopts a few children.  The giving is a bond for the co-workers.

Mother-in-Law – “Wedding pictures”

Mom – “Dinner with the family”

Thank you everyone for sharing with me.  Hope you and your family had a great Holiday season as well.

This is a very laid back Holiday around our house this year.  The cruise was our gift to each other.  Small gift to brother & parental in-laws.  We are enjoying the afternoon with my family and maybe some friends in the evening.  I hope you enjoy your day and time with those you love.

I’m working on stuff for next year’s Holiday season already.  Here’s to hoping the holiday season extends past December.

Another Favorite Fabric Designer June 29, 2010

Last fall I was obsessed with the Gobble Gobble line.  It was adorable and didn’t scream THANKSGIVING!!!  It is a great fall line with strong colors and details with the option of traditional fall decor.  Thank you Sandy Gervais

Well, she did not disappoint again this year.  For your Thanksgiving feast you can incorporate her line Awesome into your holiday buffet.  It is very similar to Gobble Gobble with a few tweaks for a fresh updated look.  Considering I bought all the of the Gobble Gobble charm packs I could, I expect to do the same with Awesome.  Fat Quarter Shop, can you run a special on them??

Ring in the Holiday season with the blend of Adoring fabrics.  I love that Sandy took traditional red and green and added in cream and blues for accents.  The fabrics are not overly Christmas, but suttle enough to be left out slightly after the Holiday has passed.  Too bad I don’t have a dining room table or else this line would be used for a cute tablerunner.

July is seriously starting this week, leaving only a few months to get the Christmas and Holiday projects complete.  Time to get busy and shopping.  Thanks again Sandy Gervais for creating wonderful lines that could be used outside of the Holiday season.

This week has been a complete whirlwind.  My mom underwent major surgery on Monday and it took longer than anticipated.  We received a diagnosis we didn’t want, but will get through.  After a long day and a few stiff drinks I finally passed out.  We have had nasty storms come through over the last few days.  The woke me up with a wonderful light show at 3:30 am.

Tuesday was a long day at the hospital visiting Mom all day.  Luckily I could go home and rest.  Sewing mania began after that.

Everyday this week I have woke up and started sewing.  What a wonderful feeling to be productive early in the am.  Today I even managed to get some stuff on Etsy.

Lots more to come though, big announcements possibly.  NO BABIES, just other stuff.

Things I’m working on:

  • Girly quilt as a custom order on Etsy
  • More potholders, starting my Christmas/Holiday versions soon
  • Yo-Yos for holiday gifts, these kept me sane on Monday.
  • Groovy flower quilt for Etsy.  Stash buster!!

Have a great creative week.  Check back next week for some news, hopefully!

Have You Started Thinking About the Holidays June 4, 2010

Okay June is here and will be quickly gone.  Have you started thinking about your holiday projects?  What do you have done already?

I have some stuff to work on, but haven’t thought about it yet.  I guess I should.  I was reading in the Esty forums today about their possible Christmas in July sale and it got me thinking.

Is there anything that you tend to make?  Have you found something that you are making for everyone this year?

Can you easily locate your holiday fabric?  My collection is small enough to fit into a shoe box, not that big at all.  I tend to shy away from purchases fabrics I can’t use year round.

This does give me an idea for this weekend.  We are going on a camping trip on Saturday and Sunday.  Taking my Yo-Yo makers and fabric would be a great idea.  Something to do and keep my hands busy and also get ready for the holidays.

Have a great weekend.  Hopefully we don’t come back with broken bones after our trail run/bike race.

Not really, but it has been chilly for the month of May in Indianapolis.  I have loaded my completed Moda Caroler quilted potholders to my Etsy page this evening.

No time to sew, had to spend time at my parents.  Instead I did take a few minutes to update.

Look for updates on Friday, work does not start until 3pm for me.  The plan now is to spend a couple of hours sewing.

Here is a preview of what I uploaded on Etsy tonight.  Have a quilty Thursday.
